Configure WordPress
Immediately after installing WordPress, I configure it with the basics.
Go to Manage –>Posts and edit the default first post or delete it.
Go to Manage –>Comments and edit the default first comment or delete it.
Go to Users –>Authors & Users and add a proper user other then admin to publish as. Be sure to promote that user so you can publish.
Go to Options –>General and configure your settings.
Go to Options –>Writing and change your mail server info and be sure to add your ping list down at the bottom under Update Services
Go to Options –>Reading and configure your settings.
Go to Options –>Discussion and configure your settings. I also HIGHLY recommend you check the “Blacklist comments from open and insecure proxies” check box!
Go to Options –>Permalinks and configure your settings.
Go to Options –>Miscellaneous and configure your settings.
Those are the basic script settings. After that, it is time to change the theme. All the theme things can be found in Presentation. To add a new theme, you have to upload the new theme into the wp-content/themes/ directory then select them for use in the WordPress admin. You get there by Presentation–>Themes.
Finally, it is time to leave the WordPress admin and start making physical hacks and add advertising or other none WordPress stuff.
After that, you are left with just blogging.
